International Women’s Day is coming up on Friday 8th March and we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some of the amazing women who work for us at The Butler.

We sat down with General Manager Rosie Wilson, Head Chef Amber Doig & Event Coordinator Jenna VanderEnde to find out what motivates them to work in hospitality & who inspires them.

How long have you worked for AppleJack:
5 months

What motivates you to work in hospitality?
Having the ability and fundamental desire to make someone’s day, every single day.

Who is a female leader that inspires you & why?
For me, it’s forever inspiring walking into a restaurant or bar (or anywhere), and seeing a female running the place. It makes me so proud and makes me feel like I’m a part of something bigger.

Fave spirit or cocktail?
If I am finishing work, my go-to is a pint of IPA and a shot of Jameson.
Favourite Classic – equal tie Negroni & Mezcal Tommy’s.
Favourite Butler cocktail – That Flaming Juan 🔥

How long have you worked for AppleJack:
2 years & 5 months

What motivates you to work in hospitality?
Developing young Chefs, working in a supportive & inspired team and using the above to strive for guest satisfaction.
Who is a female leader that inspires you & why?
Christine Mansfield – An all around Australian Culinary Legend.
Monique Fiso –  A young NZ Chef with international reknown & experience. She is currently the lead for showcasing Māori cuisine & native ingredients in a modern setting!
What’s your go to dish?
From the Butler menu, it would have to be my Mezcal Cured Ora King salmon with pickled daikon, cream cheese whip, pomegranate & wakame. My New York inspired plate using south side of the world ingredients.

How long have you worked for Applejack:
2 years 3 months

What motivates you to work in hospitality?
Working in hospitality affords me the opportunity to create special moments for people on a daily basis, which is something that I find very rewarding!

Who is a female leader that inspires you & why?
My mom is a constant inspiration to me. Her sincere care and concern for others are attributes that I look to embody.

Your top event advice for someone hosting an event?
Always remember to carve out the time to create memories with those you love most! Planning a family dinner or a long lunch with friends is the perfect way to stay connected.
